Project Highlights

  • Whilst attending the official opening of the NLR, Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance, stated that the local team has set the standard for the state
  • Robson successfully worked in collaboration with the Rail Contractor (Rhomberg) successfully delivering the project on time and budget.
  • Unknown in ground services and the relocation of existing infrastructure was a major risk for the head contractor. Robson mitigated this risk through a proactive approach to field based design and relationship based interactions with multiple service providers.

Project duration of 18 months at a value of $60.2m.

Scope of Work

Newcastle Light Rail (NLR) is an integral part of the revitalisation of Newcastle, providing a frequent and reliable travel option through the city centre.

Robson was the principal subcontractor engaged by managing contractor Downer, the scope of works performed by Robson included:

  • Positive identification of existing services including potholing;
  • Contestable utility relocation works;
  • Installation of Combined Services Route (CSR);
  • Installation of traffic control signalling elements below pavement and footpath FSL;
  • Existing pavement removal and disposal of site generated materials;
  • Earthworks cut to fill and importation;
  • Foundation & subgrade treatment;
  • Subsoil, stormwater pavement interface and track slab drainage;
  • Pavements, aggregates, spray seal and asphalt concrete;
  • Excavation, removal, transport and disposal of any contaminated material encountered during construction; and
  • Paving and landscaping.

 


 

Gosford Passing Loops

Central Coast, NSW

Client: TfNSW (Downer)

Project Highlights

  •  Despite the challenges of working alongside a number of other stakeholders in this constrained rail corridor, Robson’s activities progressed extremely well, with completion of the civil works completed early.
  • Robson liaised closely with the community to minimise disruption caused by construction activities. Community consultation was also carried out on urban and landscaping designs.

Project duration of 23 months at a value of $44m.

Scope of Work

The Gosford Passing Loops project has delivered two passing loops between Gosford and Narara stations to allow freight trains to wait whilst passenger services pass.

In January 2013, Robson commenced design and construction works for the Principal Contractor, Downer. This $100million contract for Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) is designed to ease a rail bottleneck at Gosford described, by Transport for NSW, as “the most serious on the east coast rail network”.

Robson were responsible for the civil component of the rail project which was completed in February 2015.

Robson was engaged to complete the following scope of works:

  • 6no new rail under Bridges;
  • 3150m2 of retaining wall structures;
  • Bulk earthworks & track formation construction;
  • Culverts & drainage; and
  • Contamination mitigation measures construction.

NCIG Rail Flyover Bulk Earthworks

Kooragang, NSW

Client: NCIG

Project Highlights

  • Works staged over six separable portions each with different completion dates. Robson competed all of these on time allowing the rail shutdown works to proceed without delay.
  • Comprehensive risk management undertaken to ensure works could be completed within environmentally sensitive areas.
  • Installation and maintenance of over 4.5 km of frog exclusion fencing was implemented to protect the threatened green and gold bell frog species.

Project duration of 18 months at a value of $24m.

Scope of Work

  • Clear and grub of vegetation and stripping of topsoil;
  • Construction of Down Kooragang rail embankment formation earthworks, pavements and drainage;
  • Construction of NCIG Arrivals West of Up Kooragang Deviation rail embankment formation earthworks, pavements and retaining wall;
  • Concrete Drainage Channels;
  • Construction of Up Kooragang Deviation and rail embankment formation earthworks, pavements and drainage;
  • Construction of NCIG Arrivals East of Up Kooragang Deviation rail embankment formation earthworks, pavements, retaining walls and drainage;
  • Construction of NCIG Arrivals Over Deep Pond rail embankment formation earthworks, pavements and drainage;
  • Construction of NCIG Arrivals East of Deep Pond rail embankment formation earthworks, pavements and drainage;
  • Impact Rolling and geotechnical testing; and
  • Topsoil and hydromulch of embankment batters and open drains.

 


 

Australian Rail Track Corporation North Coast Improvement

Ulan, Hunter and North Coast Lines, NSW

Client: Transport Express JV (ARTC)

Project Highlights

  • Robson established themselves as preferred Civil Contractor to Transport Express JV (TEJV).
  • Re-establishment of a dormant quarry close to the Ulan Line Crossing Loops and utilisation of Robson mobile crushing and screening plant enabled significant savings in the cost of imported materials.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Hunter Valley Rail Network and HV Coal Supply Chain enabled Robson to provide valuable input to project planning and delivery.
  • Consultation with local landowners and community liaison provided accelerated start on various packages.

Project duration of 30 months at a value of $32.5m.

Scope of Work

  Civil works supporting construction of 12 rail crossing loops on the New South Wales Ulan, Hunter, and North Coast rail lines for Australian Rail Track Corporation (TEJV Alliance).

Scope of Works;

  • Contract for civil works undertaken at 12 rail crossing loops including Mindaribba Rail Underbridge and Crossing Loop, Kilbride Rail Underbridge and Crossing Loop and Loadstone Rail Overbridge;
  • Bulk earthworks and track formation construction;
  • Drainage including new and existing culvert extensions; and
  • Construction of new rail under bridges and over bridges.
